The idea behind this site is to help you find your cat when it is missing or prevent it from happening in the first place...................the important stuff is at the beginning.........if you want to look at pictures of our cats  and read some stories about them and other cats continue to the bottom.

all of the information contained in this page has been gleened from other cat lovers who have dealt with lost cats  and is given freely, but please remember if you want to copy or use this information remember the name of this site.

we have decided to dedicate this site to a very special cat "fuzzie" who went missing nearly 8 years ago in brighton where we lived at the time with our other 3 cats "squeak" her short haired sister, her soulmate "ginger vincent" and "kizzy". we have since then added another 2 "kitty" who is totally blind and "tallulah-belle" (lu-lu) who we picked up on our travels looking for fuzz.
lu-lu most certainly owes her life to fuzz as she was on her 3rd litter of kittens at the tender age of 13mths and was on a downward slide to who knows where, she was riddled with worms and fleas and had a mouthful of rotting teeth.now kitty was a different matter altogether, massively overweight, blind, and with an owner(this is not a word I like to use as the cat is more likely to think it owns you) who did not want her any longer (new love in his life, and all that goes with  it you get the picture) and after an aborted re-home we decided to keep her or rather she decided to stay!!!!
we have been in cat welfare in one way or another since fuzz went we run a lost and found for cats in wales now and what with lots of re-homes and the lost list ,many cats owe a lot to fuzz.

It's over 8 years now since fuzz went missing and we are still looking for her.
fuzzie was a long-haired tabby/tortie with some white on her, a fairly large cat prone to getting matts in her fur(so much so that she had regular visits to the vet to be put under anesthetic to have them cut out ),she was very high maintainance.she was bumptious, sometimes ill tempered, but also could be very affectionate when she wanted to be did not suffer fools gladly.so if you live in the brighton area and adopted a cat who might be fuzz you could contact us anonymously if you want on the email address given later or phone brighton lost and found on
01273 422721 we would just like to know what happened to her.

I would not wish the distress that we went though on anyone

now for the only advert on here, click and see just what they can supply you with for your pets,we do make a small amount of money from this which goes to keeping this site up and running

We use Vet UK for all of our dry food and most of our non prescription medicines and if you order more than £50 worth it is delivered free and in most cases the next day...........thoroughly recomended
                                                                                                 who's watching
I run a tracker on who is watching my site, and was amazed to find I have people watching from as far away as alaska, togo in africa, all over the USA,and it seems that eastern europe has a thing about cats, and of coarse from the european communitity.
In the british isles from the shetland isles to my home town of brighton.
cat quote
I put down my book. "The meaning of Zen". And seeing the cat smiling into her fur as she delicately combs it with her rough pink tongue
"Cat,I would lend you this book to study but it appears you have already read it"
She looks up and gives Mr her full gaze.
"Don't be ridiculous". she purrs."I wrote it"

FINDING YOUR CAT
now, down to the business of finding your cat, most of what you are going to read here is common sense which unfortunatey sometimes goes out of the window with the cat. it certainly did with us(headless chickens comes to mind) also a lot you will have read before but I believe that you have to have lost a cat to know what it feels like, nobody was around to give us some basic rules. that is why this site now exists.
some of the things I might say may be a bit off the wall, quirky, and downright bizzare but they have worked for other people, these are not all my own ideas they are what I have picked up from other people on the way,it has been a very steep learning curve.
as I see it there are 10 tips, rules commandments what ever you want to call them some are a lot more important than others that you need to know they are listed below in the table. the ones in red are the must do's the others you can decide on yourself but I will say here that anything you do to bring your cat back is not unimportant .
the ten commandments
1  do not panic, try and stay calm, check your own home thoroughly, everywhere all cupboards, bed, shed coalhole well you get the idea enlist everybodies help collect all your information and when you are sure it's not at home go to number 2
2 get round your neighbourhood with a photo of the cat ,if you do not have a photo a very good discription , knock on doors, talk to people, get them on your side the personal approach I have found is always the best.but always take someone with you(this is most important) and the old saying a picture paints a thousand words comes into it's own
I am going to add to this that this really does work and many cats have been found this way and I cannot emphasise it too much.
3write down a discription of the cat with the rest of the family, discuss it together decide on the best discription between you,so if someone contacts you about the cat there are no discrepancies.but always hold back one vital detail,so if mentioned even after some prompting you might ,just might be talking about the same cat .then as they say you could be cooking on gas!!!!!!(always keep a pad and pencil at the phone )
4 contact as many cat welfare organisations as possible(you will find most in the yellow pages) and your local lost and found for cats they should also have a list and may do the ringing around for you at this point I should say that if you have a local rspca in your area you must contact them and the national rspca I have had personal experience of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing cats protection are good for advice and this is where you can go local and keep contacting all the organisations they should not mind they are used to it.(my suggestion is at least every other day.)
5poster the area. a photo of the cat and your mobile number(if you have not got a mobile landline will do) poster the vets(not just yours, everybodies) post office local shops,  anywhere that will take one. put them up yourself then you know they are up if you find them disappearing replace them(if someone is tearing them down still replace them they will get tired of there stupid little games and give up) you want your cat back  put a poster on the web  there are plenty of sites I will give you some at the end
tell anyone who will listen, I found that children and senior citizens the best (everybody else is in the ratrace) postpersons, milkpersons, road sweepers. ask the local church and school to put up a poster bingo hall anywhere people gather use your imagination.
if you must go out an start looking at night(probably the best time) do not go alone and there is just one main rule here silence is golden  look in the places a cat might like to be ,empty buildings, sheds, garages, cemeteries,(I spent many hours in the cemeteries in brighton all hours of the morning you would be surprised what you see in places like that at that time) always take some dry food(do not shake the box otherwise you will have every cat in the neighbourhood chasing down the street after you)  I know I have done it and it's wasted time also take a cat carrier with you just in case you bump into the little darling.(Another little idea here if you cat is not to keen on cat baskets ect,you might like to take a pillow case with you as in a struggle you will find it easier to pop the cat into a pillow case and carry it home, not very dignified but practical.27/02/06)
And if you can not resist the urge to call do it on the way home think about it, call on the way out and your cat could end up further away ,call coming home you are giving it a chance to meet you ,stop every now and then and give it a chance to come to you .
If you have a cat that has gone missing from somewhere other than your home eg:- your vets or someone elses home,a tried and tested way of finding them is to go to the place they were lost, preferably when it is very quiet, late night or early morning and call, leave food and give it some time, this might take a while so be patient and if neccessary go back and try again.
8 spend time to go to the bottom of your garden or yard at night (set your alarm if you have to) and just listen the number of people that have found there cats this way is amazing case history only a week ago at time of writing  a man contacted me about his missing cat I suggested this to him and he done it that night and found his cat locked in a garage 3 doors down from him he had pushed a poster though their door but not spoken to them the poor little mite had been in there for 9 days I think this proves my point .
9 look at every cat you are contacted about even if you think it's not yours and if you have just moved check your old address
10 never, never, ever give up on your cat,I have personly dealt with cats that have returned home after 2 years and have read about cats turning up after 8 years at the same address.after all you would not give up on a best friend added/ 04/06/04

mymoggy has now gone national so anyone in the UK can put a photo on sues site.and worth looking on this site as more and more lost cats are finding their way there.
If your cat has been missing for 6 months or more you can put a photo and info on longlostcats a new site developed by sue and several people who have had pet cats missing for some time, note here there have been cats that re-appear after many years,so worth thinking about.there is also help on website forums, talk to people who have also lost their cats, there are two that I use catchat and the hovel
THE LITTLE OLD LADIES AND GENTS

there is one more little thing that you might like to investigate if you have the time, in some cities and even in rural situations there are what I call cat collectors, people who think every cat they see is a stray you find them everywhere .this is not to say that they do not do a creditable service to those that are stray but they are worth seeking out ,they might also be of some assistance and worth cultivating in the finding of your cat.
cat traps
if you find the cat in an inaccessible place you may have to use a cat trap your local cat welfare or lost and found will have one or know where to get one.it might be worth leaving it un-set for a while to get the cat used to feeding in it,then set it when you are sure that it's right you might only get one chance so make it count be sure you have it set right test it a few times it might need adjusting.it might also be worth covering it with a blanket so it's less obvious/added 04/06/04
IMPORTANT NOTICE
It is most important to remember that most cat welfare sanctuaries do not keep unidentified cats that are considered stray very long, we are talking a matter of weeks here and in the case of the r.s.p.c.a it could be days although officially they will deny this (if you need proof I have it ) so you must get a move on don't leave things to tomorrow what you can do today.contact your lost and found as soon as you are sure the cats missing if it comes home minutes later smile and have a cry and be sure to let them know they won't mind (if they are like me they will be just as happy as you). there is a huge backlog of older cats caused through the closing of many of the r.s.p.c.a shelters(we won't go into why they closed at this point I'll be here to long telling you)this is one of the reasons for the fast turnover.

LOTS OF USEFUL STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW

I think I have lived in rural area long enough to realize that there is not a lot of difference between the urban cat and the rural cat(but I probably will be proved wrong) a lost cat, is a lost cat, but there may be a few differences in the little tips that might bring them home.with the urban environment of coarse you have more people around, which in turn means more eyes to find your cat but it also means more dangers cars, grumpy old gardeners of which I am one and generally more people that do not like cats of which I'm not one.
tips
if your cat is mostly an indoor cat and uses a litter tray you can try the old poo in a bag trick you do what you read put some of the cats poo in a paper bag with some holes in it and place it strategically where the cat normally walks oh yes !!!! I can hear you all laughing but it has worked several times and you can also put a pair of dads worn socks pinned to a fence .
you get the idea it's the scent that is the drawing ingredient so use your imagination.leave the cats food bowl out  there is a theory you should leave it empty so the cat comes to find out where the food has gone to! try both and see if either works leave the bowl and some dry bedding  of it's own somewhere dry ,shed, garage, greenhouse. you can see the thread here always something familiar(why do you think they called cats familiars in the medieval time right up to recently) cats do not like change.
fact
an indoor cat that escapes will still know how to get home case history mrs" x" leaves indoor cat with son  for 3 weeks to be indoor cat with him whilst mum's on holiday 10 mins in sons house cat escapes son has nervous breakdown trying to find cat mum comes home to find the cat as they say in wales  gone!!!! mum attempts murder on son, eventually son is forgiven and asked to sunday lunch on his way to finding his car up the street find cat on corner and returns cat to crying hysterical happy mum this cat had never been out in 9 years it crossed 2 main roads in brighton and walked home nearly 3 miles and it took it 7 weeks.
fact
a cat only needs to be in a home minutes to pick up the scent of that house
case history mrs" y" a very nice irish lady had her daughters cat dumped on her while they went away on holiday daughter and mum live 200+miles apart cat comes though front door and out the back ,daughter comes home to find cat missing spends a fortune on trips to brighton at weekends to try and find cat husband offered job in brighton which he takes whole family spend time looking for cat now, cat turns up at mums house 5 mths later fit as a fiddle cat re-united with happy family .
tips
if you know someone is away on holiday check the cat is not locked in there house a look though the letterbox should do the trick you know how nosy cats are.
if you have builders in or working nearby keep all gates locked (thats how we lost fuzz) and if they insist on leaving them open nail them shut or throw them off the job this goes for all people working at your home let them know that the cat is part of the family (if they laugh throw them off the job!!!!!)

fact
a fox will not bother a fit cat although some rural foxes have been known to attack a cat but that is rare occurance I have seen a fox the size of a large dog go out of it's way to avoid a domestic cat in brighton cemetery so do not get paranoid about scare stories about foxes attacking your cat.
It has now come to my attention that in some urban area's foxes are attacking domestic cats, mostly in the london and home counties area so be careful.
newspaper adds
put a add in the local paper (you might get it free) and a photo if you can afford to they do work but will sometimes attract the local loonies, who should be ignored.
hoover dust bags
listening to the radio one day I heard an old gent saying that he spread the contents of his hoover bag around the area of his house when his cat went missing, the scent of the the house himself and the cat hairs pervades anyway his cat came home that night after being missing for 2wks so it apparently worked I'v never tried it ,but if the cat came home who am I to argue.

AND ANOTHER CAT QUOTE
cATS, LIKE CARS, TEND TO GET STOLEN,SCRATCHED,AND WEATHER WORN IF PARKED OUTSIDE NIGHT AFTER NIGHT.
(DAVID TAYLOR/ AN OWNERS MAINTAINANCE MANUAL)

                                                                                                                                                    roger davis
The above quote brings us nicely on to the next subject preventing your cat from going missing

before we get to deeply into this subject ask yourself this question is my cat neutered if it is not
                            get it done now !!!!!!
an un-neutered tom cat can cause you to be knee deep in kittens in no time, only you are not the one who has to take care of them . it's a moral issue it's the cat that lives with you so you should be responsible and get it done theres no excuse it's not costly anyway, most town and cities have a cat welfare and can assist in this and cats protection run a scheme for people on benifit(phone number yellow pages) and as for the old chestnut a she cat is of no use until she's had a litter of kittens it's rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the same applies to girls as well as the boys  in the above info.
a cat is un-neutered it is going to wander it's not rocket science I'm not here to tell you about the birds and bees it's in there nature give them the equipment and they are going to use it and nothing you can do will stop them other than neutering. case history when we moved to wales we had waiting on the doorstep j.t.c (jones the cat) stray in the village for 8 years after being abandoned as a kitten several people were feeding him one lady in particular. but she had never been able to get him to a vet to be done,he had been a very vicious cat. we trapped him and had him neutered and he came home with us and we let him go 4mths went by and we had no phone call or sighting of jones we feared the worst I called on the lady and to my surprise jones was with her and had never left her house in all that time ,he was unrecognisable he had put on weight and his coat was thick and shiny he was happy and purring,a loving cat in a loving home.
 out  at  night
The habit of letting the cat out at night is also a bit of a myth, most cats that go missing have gone at night. keep them in wherever you live if you are already letting them out at night start coaxing them to stay in better an angry cat than a lost one since moving to the country ours all come in just before dark if they are not in we go and find them they have got used to it now and are normally in by that time anyway.

ginger vincent tucked up in bed at night where he should be.

.microchipping
microchipping I must admit was not a process that I favoured until I started running a lost and found for cats in brighton even when I was welfare officer with cats protection where it was a must do for re-homed cats I was not convinced. I would go as far as saying it should be illegal not to now, for 2 reasons firstly it's an aid to stop missing cats from slipping though the net, secondly you can trace neglectful owners and prosecute for neglect or abandonment.
it's a simple process painless if done by the right person and not expensive.most cat welfares have a scanner and of coarse all vets should have one, once checked and your number comes up "bingo" you have your cat back but you must remember to inform the chip people when you move house.
it has come to my notice that if you cannot be found  when your lost pet turns up at a rescue after 2 weeks your details can be altered so the cat can be re-homed,please be sure you ask that only you may alter details on your cat.
and again be sure you keep your details up to date.

collars
with collars you get what you pay for the more expensive they are the better they are, always get one with a bell on only to protect birds but you can also hear them,it shows where they are.
a disc with telephone number is also essential or a barrel done up tightly(a vet or anybody with sense would cut the collar off to find any info) and if you have a cat with a medical condition put this info on it as well.also always get a collar with an elastic piece sewn into it so the cat can escape if it's caught up in something by the collar, you can now also get collars with flashing lights these might be worth giving a try it all depends on the cat does it really want a disco hanging round it's neck?
photo's
you may also like to take some good photos of the cat just in case, especially if it has some unusual markings or nicks in the ear etc. because beleive me there will be times when you can not remember (we have very few photos of fuzz now they all went to papers ,posters ect and now we wish we had taken a lot more)
fireworks
heres one of my pet hates fireworks one of the reason many cats do a runner at that time of year keep them away from them lock them in a room with the curtains drawn with the radio on loud, some cats don't seem to bothered about them but I'm afraid most are, in urban situations the firework season lasts all year(as in the city we left brighton) I belong to the "if you want bangs and flashes join the army brigade" and I'm afraid you have always got the odd moron who thinks it's clever to throw fireworks at animals or worse
going away on holiday
if you are going away on holiday don't leave to the last minute the looking after of your cat(s) asking the neighbour to do it at the last knockings is not good. how would you feel if someone you did'nt know or like suddenly bustled into your house and started to mess around with your food and belongings. make sure that the cat(s) know the person well after all is this person going to call your cat(s) in at night, take a sick animal to a vet if not and you can't find anyone else to do the job I have only 2 suggestions take them with you or don't go. lots of cats go missing when there co-habitees go away on holiday fortunately most come home later, but some are very unforgiving and move in with someone else.
butter on the paws
there is also the supposed old wives tale about smearing butter on a cats paws after moving house but I'm here to tell you that it works,I don't know why it works but it most certainly does.there is the theory which I would subscribe to if pushed, that the butter turns rancid and that scent takes away any lingering scent of the old house and would also aid the cat to find it's way back home  at the new house.case history  my old mum used to use this method to stop all of our cats from straying ,and we moved around a lot and had some very short stays she even used to let them out of the car when we had picnics and we never lost a cat.
there is a product on the market called "feliway" which you can get from any vet which works a treat, but a bit expensive but are'nt the little darlings worth it.

it must be somebodies cat?
stray cats, you might think so what? my answer is well it must be somebodies cat,it belonged to a home at sometime,it's someone elses lost cat.If you find yourself feeding or looking after a stray cat please take it to a vet to be checked for a microchip and it's general health (most vets will not charge you for this) if the cat is coming occaisionally try putting a paper collar on it/or attach it to a collar if it already has one, with your phone number on it (some cats have two homes).
If you wish after a while to adopt the cat(please do if you have established it's homeless)get it vet checked.
Advice on this can be given on these sites catchat and the hovel

                                                                 THE STORY OF TALLULAH-BELLE

I don't think I could write these articles about strays without doing a story about our tallulah-belle or lu-lu for short,we first came across poppy as she was known then when we were called to a block of flats where there was a mum and one kitten. when we arrived there we found them living in a meter cupboard as soon as they saw us they scattered."boots" her kitten was bigger than her he was 7 mths old so you can judge from that her size. he was fairly easy to catch and in the basket he went she was a different story we chased her all over the flats up and down stairs ,though windows ,over furniture and behind cookers that were on.
after 2 hours she felt sorry for us and waited on a window sill then we had to get her in the same basket as boots after a long struggle we were on our way home.both cats hung on the mesh of the cat pen for hours boots was the first to give in but poppy was still there at 1am in the morning some 8 hours later,I finally got her down but she refused her nice warm bed and sat behind it and hissed and spat at me.
boots made himself at home and was eating and sleeping normally she continued to be aggressive and refused any food later that day whilst cleaning the pen I had to move her and felt her tummy as we had suspected she was pregnant!!!! we were not told this when we picked her up ,not as though it would have made any difference it would have nice to have been told.
boots was ready to go and be adopted,he went to a very nice couple who would give him a great home, poppy moved to our spare room still hissing and spitting.
the next day was a very long one with one thing and another and I did'nt spend much time with her I was very late going to bed and popped in to say goodnight to our visitor to be greeted with another bout of hissing and this time screaming,I took our spare duvet  and parked myself on the floor in her room,in the early hours I woke with this evil smell pervading the duvet,it was poppy cuddled up under my arm like a kitten, the smell? her breathe.
she was 13mths old about to have her 3rd litter of kittens, not a sound tooth in her mouth, riddled with worms and fleas her previuos 2 litters were born in an outside carpark and her kittens had all survived all 10 of them.
she became huge with her kittens everybody loved her and bought her presents she had the best of everything, her kittens came at 5am in the morning she had problems with the second it was a breach, eventually he came still in the sac not breathing and poppy showing no interest shirley had to bring him back to life 3 times before he would breath on his own, uno, duo, trio, and quatro allsettled down with mum she had excepted duo what a relief!!!!!!!!
3 boys and a girl mum and kittens all thrived they were huge, eyes open at 3 days, solids at 3 weeks, all the kittens were adopted and went to very good homes but when it came to poppy we could'nt let her go so she stayed with us, she was neutered and de-wormed we had already got rid of the fleas and she was introduced to the rest of the cats,oh dear!!!!! she attacked them all in turn but it was as if they all knew she had a bad time and they gave her some leeway and after 2 years she just beginning to become one of the gang theres still the odd slap but with 5 cats you are going to get that but it's not world war three, it's all about trust she has travelled a long way with us all and with her start in life we can all forgive her anything.

    tom-tom the cemetery cat

we had several calls to the cemetery as cats of fuzzies discription had been seen there, brighton municipal cemetery can only be discribed as huge, it runs from the lewes rd to tennantary down rd  and from hartington rd to bear rd, it doe's not look much on paper but you try walking it a few times.we ended up at the top end,I had seen some cats there early in the morning(2am the best time to find cats)I had assumed wrongly that all the cats I was seeing were from the houses at the perimeter just on the prowl for some sport,(some of these cats would sit on the gravestones and fall on there prey bells on there collars and all ,clever these cats)
I had noticed a scrawny tabby and white cat making itself busy watching our every move, and before long it was walking longside us tripping us up at every step.
He was so obviously a stray, he had a red flea collar on that was 10 sizes to big for him,we tagged him(paper note with our phone number on attatched to his collar) and we started to feed him, several weeks went by and he was beginning to become a pest in and out of our legs begging us to take him home, it broke our hearts to leave him every night sitting on the memorial steps but there he was the next night waiting for us.
By this time we had a friend helping us to look for fuzz, one night it was freezing cold and raining and we decided between us that he had to go inside, the next night we would try and catch him and take him home so our friend could collect him and take him home with him ,we did'nt have to catch him he jumped into the basket(it had been 4weeks since putting his paper collar on and the assumption was he had no home).
The idea was that we would get him back to good health and re-home him,he went to the vet and got a clean bill of health and we went to see him at the friends house,we left there knowing that tom-tom was happy as our friend could not be without him and adopted him.
Tom-tom now he's still with our friend very happy ,spoilt, lord of the manor, lord of all he surveys 4girlfriends to live with, loved happy and warm.the friend? well he took over the brighton lost and found when we left brighton and a good job he's doing.in one year he has re-homed 30 stray cats. it's what I call the fuzzie ripple effect.

tom-tom just after he moved from the cemetery(bat ears or what?)

               kizzy
kizzy came to us through a neighbour who moved away and of coarse kizzy kept coming back to the place that she knew, the neighbour came back 4 times to collect her she had only moved a short distance away. she had no cat flap to let herself in and out, and a ginger tom bully boy to contend with ,so it was easier to come back to the place she knew. the last time she came back was 2am in the morning I was working upstairs and could feel this set of eyes on me ,she was sitting on the window sill soaked to the skin I let her in and gave her some food, dried her off and she fell asleep on my lap.
kizzy was and still is a very insular cat doe's not like people or other cats, but has still managed to settle in a multi-cat household, she is subservient to the point of being invisible.her background was one of what can only be described as systematic cruelty by the little boy that she lived with, pulled by the tail and ears kicked, punched, and thats only what I saw from our garden to his. we took her to the vet for something unrelated and found that she had a broken jaw which by this time was inoperable, but she had put up with it for so long had become used to it. fuzzy used to take great delight in scurrying after her just to show her who was boss but kizz would always have the last laugh, fuzz would be triumphantly swaggering up the garden path with that smug look she was so good at only to find that kizz had circled her and was already back where she started, enough to wipe that look off fuzz's face and gain a bit of street cred .ginger vincent was the only cat in christendom that was afraid of her and still is  those 2 spent many years together(they lived 2 doors apart) even before we excepted them into our lives, and even when kizz was a kitten he did'nt like the look of her and here they are some years later still tollerating each other.
since moving to wales kizz has changed into a different cat more confident, relaxed and certainly fitter, although she still carries her worry beads just in case.

Kizzy passed away (25/01/2010) she felt it was her time to go,she did not like the vets anyway, she was still a feisty old lady to the end

kitty the blind cat
kitty came to us by mistake,we were asked to rehome her because the guy that had her had found a new love in his life and this partner hated cats, we thought we had rehomed her the girl had worked with a blind cat before so she was ideal everything had been set up and it was going to be a straight changeover, no pen or to much upset .
we had taken 4mths to set this exchange up and everything went well we settled her into her new home everybody was happy, you can feel the "but" coming here.the next day her new mum rang us she had not checked ,her boyfriend had a cat allergy his eyes came out on stalks.
we picked her up from them ,they were heartbroken but not as much as us I can tell you.
we discussed what to do on the way home she could not go into a catpen so we had no choice but to foster her in our home with our 4 cats,do we keep her in a room on her own ,very unfair to a blind cat so straight indoors and dumped on the floor to take her chances. It was mayhem we introduced the litter tray and the other cats one by one they were not impressed with this upset but what could we do in the circumstances.
3 days of hissing ,spitting, and tidal waves of pee, then this massively overweight,un-fragrant cat found the catflap, how she squeezed though it I will never know but her life changed from that momment on. she decided to stay.she has come a long way since then she is a loving, gentle slim, sweet smelling sweetheart of a cat.
she is more intrepid than the other 4 put together, she is a one cat escape artist, she glides around silently looking for trouble.she is the only one that can trap a frog to the amazement of the others and us and we have to save them although she doe's not seem to relate to them as food, she has a voice like a fish-hag and can be heard for miles.she is now on KD diet for her kidneys which are failing, she has small stumpy legs and an even smaller stumpier tail and of coarse she is blind caused though lack of turin (vitimin) as a kitten she was fed dog food instead of cat food in those formative weeks(some people are very stupid and crass).her prognosis is for a short life she is 6 yrs now which is a miracle in itself ,she is happy and confident and with all her problems it has not effected her heart it's large and open she loves everybody with it.she is so happy with her world were nobody can see and she has her garden to stimulate all her other senses and her friends to live with until that day ,that dreaded day when she has to say goodbye until then she intends to live life to the full. dded 04/06/04
sadly kitty passed away in november 2004,her kidney problems finally caught up with her,she was a brave little girl right to the end.
rest in peace my little angel.

ginger vincent  the cat that came in from the cold
vinny as we know him was the first of our 5 cats to live with us,he started coming in and stealing our dogs food,he knew that paddy our jack russel girl was not a nasty dog and up to a point would allow vinny to come in and nick her food. he was hungry,he lived with the girl next door a nurse, who worked shifts and vinny was fed as and when there was no catflap either so he could be seen sleeping in the outhouse next door which was open to the elements.

he would in the winter sometimes come in with frost on his back after refusing to go in at night.
he was known in the neighbourhood as one stroke ginger, because thats all you would get before he would have your hand in a tight grip,he was often to be seen hanging off some poor university students arm with them desperatley trying to shake him off.he would take on anything even the dogs used to give him the big swerve,he was king of all he surveyed, in our road anyway.
paddy had eventually been beaten by the big "C" and left us with a huge hole in our lives,3 days after paddy had gone vinny moved in he totally refused to leave that night and hid under the bed. neither of us were in the mood for a battle with him so he stayed that night with us resolved to kick him out in the morning, easier said than done. after some negotiations we all agreed to let him stay on the understanding that he was never to be our cat.now it was holidays when we wanted them without worrying about finding a dog sitter. days turned into weeks and months and the 2 girls arrived, sisters, fuzzy and squeak ,squeak I hear you say silly name for a cat but all will be revealed later.
they all settled very well together ,vinny could not believe his luck 2  pretty stunning cats and living with him his little chest could not puff out any larger, as time went on he would tease squeak, but would not dare even look in fuzz's direction. fuzz and vinny had a healthy respect for one another, they became soulmates he is the only one that was allowed to sleep anywhere near her until they used to lay side by side.
when fuzz went missing he used to sit at the end of the road waiting for her to come home,6 months he waited there until I went and carried him home we both knew in our hearts that she was not going to come home someone had taken her away, because if she could have walked she would have got home somehow.he excepted 2 more girls, kitty being his new friend, she can trample on him, bath him and he never complains he shows her his gentle side.lu-lu is a different matter she is boisterous and younger he prefers the more mature type(particularly margaret rutherford lookalikes which kitty is). Imagine how we were feeling when we decided to move to wales, vinny had been living with us for years but the subject had to be broached.
we spoke to our neighbour and she had already realised we were moving and instinctively knew the question to be asked .She was happy to let vinny come with us her thinking on this was that he was very happy with us and his little harem and realised what was best for him or was it us.
he is now nearly 15 years old ,older than we thought, enjoying life in wales, still king of all he surveys,a little older ,greying, still handsome, brave little soldier that he is,always loyal to those he loves.an atribute not normally given to cats but then ginger vincent is no normal cat.

squeak!   what a silly name for a cat

it's very difficult to know where to start,at the beginning I suppose, she arrived with her sister in a cardboard box it opened and these 2 pretty little heads rose out of it,we were only supposed to have them for a short while but they ended up staying, her and her sister were devoted to one another they done everything together and they were a joy to have. squeak always took the back seat whilst fuzz got down to running the house, with ginger vincent they were our 3 little mousekateers, poor kizzy was always the outsider, the loner, but she never minded as long as she had her cuddle at night.
so there they were the 4 until there were only 3,when fuzz went missing it upset the balance,we and they were devistated,I really don't want to go over that story again
squeak did'nt know how to cope for the first few days(the photo above was taken at that time you can see the sadness in her face) but cope she did and eventually took over the mantle that fuzz left.she coped with having foster cats indoors and in a pen in the garden and mixing with 2 more cats that she did'nt know and having to except them into the house all this after losing her sister.
she and ginge have always had an inderstanding even if he did bully her a little at the start, she has always ruled with an iron fist in a kid glove since the going of fuzz, she doe's not lose her temper often but when she doe's everybody gets it they are all put in their place one by one.
she will always be the leader and teacher they all look to her for pointers .
she has never I repeat never had her claws or teeth in either of us she has the loudest purr that I have ever known and it sometimes keeps you awake at night in bed. her name comes from the fact that whenever you pick her up she squeaks like  one of those dog toys you can buy.
as the years have gone by without fuzz she(squeak) has become more and more like her sister taking on the same characteristics, the only one she has never taken on is fuzz's bossiness and arogance but give it time they are there somewhere under the surface. all in all her sister would be proud of how her once meak, quiet little sister has turned out ,we are also very proud of the way she has coped with life without her sister.

                                                                                               new additions

this is harvey who joined us in oct 2004,after an RTA in our village he is about 7 years old and is settling in very well, putting on weight and beginning to get his feet under the table.

we now think he was an indoor cat and has definitely settled in he obviously had escaped from his owner or was thrown out and dumped in our village.

And this is megan(meg) 4 months old and very sweet, confident and is settling in very well even after 3 weeks,as yet un-neutered but will be in a months time then she will be able to go into the big wide world(our garden).

meggy has now been neutered and is out in the big wide world and climbing every tree in the garden, and she is growing fast  also getting on OK with the others inc kizzy who hates every living thing, plays with harvey and is growing into a very nice cat.

so we are back to 5.

added  27/09/05

we always said that 5 was the limit ...........................but when we took a cat to foster, who had been through god knows what,we could not resist..................................so I give you Harriet, now neutered and getting on very well with the others especially meggy they are about the same age so the hope is they will be soulmates.

I t is now January 2009 and for the last two years we have had a ginger tom coming to us for his food,Murphy gets on really well with all the other six and when we can catch him(we have tried a cat trap,we think he has been in one before, and many other ruses to get hold of him but non so far have worked) he has had some horrific injuries in that time his cheek and neck ripped (we could actually see his wind pipe) and thanks to our vet who trusted us to give him anti-biotics he has recovered, several times we said goodbye to him not expecting him to return,
but like the preverbial bad penny there he was next day waiting for his breakfast.
we have decided that the only way we are going to get him is by making friends with him ..................watch this space.

                                                     a salutary lesson

we have been feeding a stray for a year now ,he was very shy and it took the whole year for me to get him to come to me and be affectinoate, we thought we would have a sixth cat by now , but on taking him to the vets to be neutered the vet found lumps on his tummy so we decided to have bloods done + an exploritory operation.
poor baby  had tumors all over his underside +he was found to be FIV.
ALBY was put to sleep yesterday,he was no more than 2/3 years old.
the lesson to be learned here is NEUTER YOUR CAT  he obviously contracted this from mating.
always have any stray you take in blood tested .

RIP little gentle boy,you will never be forgotten.

INTERNET BULLYING
Something I thought I would never come across only looking at football and cat forums but it happens and just recently its happened to me not on a football forum but yes on a cat forum it normally starts with the person becoming your friend and ends up with you having to leave the forum  because you have chosen to be honest .
In my case I might have stayed and slogged it out but the person in question had manouvered their way into becoming a moderator so it would never be a level playing field anything you said would be deleted as soon as you put it on,in fact it has been known for posts to be altered or deleted just as an annoyance and even after being banned from one forum used someone elses user name and password (which by the way is illegal) but complaints to adminstators do not work, the problem with having weak administration the point in case is when a moderator starts a thread using abuse and name calling and the thread is left on for days without moderation it seems that you can say what you like about who you like and get away with it.
So please be warned they are around ,they are users they use people who think they need this persons friendship.
If it happens to you.
you can google  for help sites, inform the police, and if the adminstration is strong you can complain to them the other alternative is you can leave the forum.
If you have by chance given this person or they find your phone number and you have abusive phone calls, get their number blocked and inform your line supplier,if you get abusive emails you can also block these.
Please enjoy your posting on forums but just keep this warning in mind.
DONATIONS TO  RESCUES
another problem that I have across is independant rescues and shelters asking for money (donations) please, please be careful who you give your money to be sure you at least have a phone number or know where the rescue is so you could visit if you live near enough.
most of these people have very small websites which can vary  from forum to forum and the name of the rescue can vary from forum to forum (sometimes a very subtle change) why would this be you can ask yourself,it should start alarm bells ringing.
If you must give something, try giving money to their vet practise to take off their bill or drop off some pet food for the animals.
Its your hard earned money so be careful where it goes so before you eagerly click that paypal button THINK.

and finally as they say a few words and thanks,if this site only saves one cat whilst lost or from getting lost it's done it's job, please feedback any information or stories about your lost cat to the email address on the home page, now the thanks to all those people who I now count as my friends that have put up with us droning on about our lost fuzz and cats in general we have made some very good friends on our way and also a word of thanks to Bruce Drury who's book" creating a website" was invaluable ,because if he can show me who had never sat at a computer until 4mths ago,(at the time of writing) how to do it then theres hope for us all.                                                                                 roger davis
